The Concert

I loved this French/Russian film of a band of blacklisted Russian/jewish players performing a concert in Paris, in the guise of being the Bolshoi. Elements of The full Monty/Calendar Girls and other such films, with culture clashes and great music thrown in. Very close to home at the moment with me heading off to Moscow in two days. A very emotional, if slightly improbable film - could a violinist, whatever their experience, play the Tchaikovsky violin concerto with no knowledge of it and no rehearsal, at a day's notice? I think not, but it works in the movie, and works tremendously - and works in that it makes you want to go and listen to more Tchaikovsky.
