This is the first time I have been to a cinema to see a film in ages. Usually I go to the live broadcasts. I'm not quite sure why I was drawn to this, but I loved it. Yep, the time structure trick took me a short while to grasp, but I sat marvelling at the structure and the beauty of the shots, and then the horror of the shots, hardly being able to breathe for the tension....that soundtrack of an insistent heartbeat is agonising. Some of the shots, with all the practical effects, are astonishing. certainly a film that replays your concentration, pretty shattering and a technical achievement. I might go again. Pretty much a masterpiece. I watched the 1958 black and white stoic version shortly afterwards, and it is very dry, but does have interesting model work, and animation, and Flanagan and Allan pop up every so often.
