The Garrick, November 18th 2009

Well done to the Garrick for choosing to do the play wrongly seen as a poor relation to Houghton's Hindle Wakes. There's certainly a good succinct play in there, that really comes together in the last act, and this production did have some great moments, again in the last act, but rogue doors, flapping carpets, a maze of furniture, some indistinct diction, a less strong performance, unhangable pictures all threatened to derail the evening, and that really shouldn't happen. However we did leave grinning away, so we got there, but the evening cannot, in all honesty, be said to have showcased the Garrick.
