I was just looking at the weta Workshop website, which obviously get a hundred portfolios each day. Very usefully they provide this booklist of essential reading about special effects, make-up, sculpting, drawing, and all those animation skills. Do have a look.

I found another book which seems to be very helpful:
"The Animaor's Survival Kit" written by Richard Williams who did this Roger Rabbit thing. The ISBN is 0-571-20228-4.

I bought ot last week and I don't regret that. It explains a lot newbies like me are interested in. So it may help other beginners, too.
